Privacy Policy for BRAIN BACKGAMMON
Last updated: October 8, 2026
This privacy policy describes how BRAIN BACKGAMMON ("the app") handles information. We wrote it in plain language.
Summary
- Local pass-and-play and vs-AI games are entirely on-device: no account, no network request, no data collection of any kind.
- Online multiplayer requires an account (email address + password) and sends game moves through our server so two devices can play against each other; see "Online multiplayer" below for exactly what that involves.
- The app shows ads, served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device and advertising identifiers under Google's own privacy practices; see "Advertising" below.
- If you allow notifications, the app registers your device with Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can send you one weekly reminder about the weekly challenge; see "Notifications" below. You can turn it off in Settings.
- You can remove ads with a one-time purchase handled by Google Play; see "Purchases" below.
- We do not sell any data, and we do not share data with anyone beyond what's described in this policy.
What the app does
BRAIN BACKGAMMON is a backgammon game with three ways to play:
- Pass-and-play games between two people on the same device.
- Games against a built-in, on-device AI opponent.
- Online multiplayer games against another person, matched and relayed through our game server.
Local and vs-AI play
All game state (board position, dice rolls, score, in-app settings such as your preferred difficulty level) for local pass-and-play and vs-AI games is stored only on your device, using standard local app storage. None of it is transmitted anywhere, and none of it is seen by us.
Online multiplayer
Playing online requires creating an account with your email address and a password, and an internet connection. To make that work, our server:
- Stores your email address and a securely hashed version of your password (we never store your password in plain text, and we never see it after registration).
- Uses your email address to send you a one-time password-reset code, if you ask to reset your password. Sending that email is handled for us by a third-party transactional email provider, Resend (resend.com) — your email address is passed to Resend only to deliver that one message, not for any other purpose. See Resend's privacy policy for how they handle it.
- Stores an optional nickname and country you can set, and an Elo-style skill rating that goes up or down based on your online game results — all of this, along with your email-derived display name if you haven't set a nickname, is visible to the opponent you're matched with, the same way it would be in any online multiplayer game.
- Stores the games you play online — the moves, dice rolls, and score — tied to your account, so an in-progress game can survive a server restart or resume if you or your opponent reconnects.
- Sees technical connection information inherent to any network request (such as your device's IP address), the same way any online service does, in order to relay moves between you and your opponent in real time.
We do not ask for your real name or any government-issued ID. Online account and game data is not sold or shared with third parties beyond Resend's narrow role described above; it exists only to let registration, password reset, matchmaking, and gameplay work.
Advertising
BRAIN BACKGAMMON shows ads, served through Google AdMob. This funds continued development of a free app.
- AdMob (and the underlying Google Mobile Ads SDK) may collect and process device and advertising identifiers, general device information, and approximate location, in order to serve and measure ads — including, where permitted, personalized ads based on your interests.
- Where required by law (for example, for users in the EEA/UK), the app presents a consent form before any personalized ads are requested, using Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). You can review or change that choice at any time from Settings → Privacy options (shown whenever Google determines that option is required for your region).
- Ad serving and any related data collection is governed by Google's own privacy practices, not ours: see Google's Privacy & Terms and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- We do not receive your personal identity from AdMob, and we do not combine ad data with your online multiplayer account.
Notifications
When you are signed in on Android, the app asks permission to show notifications. If you allow it, the app registers your device with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). This produces a random device registration token, which our server stores together with your account and your language (Hebrew or English), and uses only to send you a reminder about the weekly challenge — at most once a week, and only if you still have an open goal. The token is used for nothing else and is not shared with anyone except Google, which delivers the message under Google's privacy policy.
- You can turn the reminder off at any time in Settings → Weekly challenge reminder; doing so, and logging out, removes the token from our server.
- You can also deny or revoke notification permission in your phone's system settings.
Purchases
You can remove ads with a one-time in-app purchase. The purchase is processed entirely by Google Play: we never see or store your payment details. The app only asks Google Play whether your Google account owns the purchase (so it is kept if you reinstall or change phones), and remembers the answer on your device.
Permissions
The app does not request access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, or any other sensitive device permission. On Android 13 and later it asks for permission to show notifications (see "Notifications"). Local and vs-AI play do not require internet access; online multiplayer, notifications, purchases and ads do.
Children's privacy
BRAIN BACKGAMMON is a general-audience strategy board game and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If ads are shown to a user who has indicated they are under the age of consent, the app tags that ad request accordingly per Google's UMP guidance so Google can adjust ad personalization and data collection as required by law.
Data deletion
- Local/vs-AI data never leaves your device — uninstalling the app removes all of it.
- To delete your online multiplayer account and its stored game history, contact us at the email below and we will remove it.
- Your notification token is removed when you turn off the weekly reminder or log out, and with your account if it is deleted.
- Ad-related identifiers are controlled by your device's ad settings (e.g. Android Settings → Google → Ads) and by Google, not by us directly — see Google's privacy policy linked above for how to manage or reset them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes (for example, if we add new features that collect different data). Continued use of the app after an update is subject to the revised policy, which will be posted at the same URL as this one.
